Comparing Public And Private Management: Cooperative Effort And Principal-Agent Relationships

Management studies often attempt to identify similarities and differences between the public and private sectors. This essay takes an alternative approach by examining the basic internal characteristics and external constraints on management in both sectors. The analysis concentrates on comparable team production problems and underlying principal-agent relationships, providing illustrations from private firms and public agencies.
